β€œTo do what nobody else will do, in a way that nobody else can do, in spite of all we go through, that is what it is to be a nurse.” -Rawsi Williams

Sandy McCarty along with 4 other UTMB nurses chartered our chapter as a Special Interest Group under Texas ENA in 2000.  After a year we met the qualifications to be a chapter and were given the name, Gulf Coast ENA #435.  Sandy was the first president and the driving force for many years.  Lucy Waldon and CiCi Doro were the back bone of our chapter and helped build interest and leadership.  We started off with less then 100 members and currently have grown to approximately 230 members.  Our chapter boarders run along the Gulf Coast including Angleton, Brazesport, Galveston and part of Houston.  Currently our members work at various hospitals, such as Mainland MC, Clearlake MC, Memorial Herman Clear Lake Hospital, UTMB Galveston, Clear Lake and League City campuses.  We are currently in the process of writing down our 21 year story, so if you are or were an active member and would like to contribute to this review of our history, reach out to us.
